This entry is part 3 of 3 in the series Astonishing Moments

I never thought I’d cheer for the X-Men while they’re taking down a group of normal human thugs. Sometimes, we need to be reminded that the X-Men are a group of well-trained soldiers with super frickin’ powers! Kudos to John Cassaday for the cheer-worthy X-attack!

After being slightly underwhelmed by the Civil War tie-ins a couple of years ago, I swore to just stick with the main Secret Invasion book and probably pick up a couple of tie-in issues. I’ve been seriously considering breaking that oath for the past few weeks because I really want to get the SI issues of New Avengers and Mighty Avengers, and I’ve already picked up the Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four. Now, looking at Marvel’s August solicitations, I just know that I’m bound to get into most of the Secret Invasion action. Here are three minis that will drop in August that lured me into the dark side:

monthly haul #2

Hm. The first two Monthly Haul opening images contain Wolverine saying “Comics!” and I swear to God it wasn’t premeditated. Anyhoo, I kind of realized that since I’m doing this monthly comic book reviews thing, I might as well do it the last week of every month. If you noticed, I’m currently doing it the third week, which is sorta weird. So the third installment of Monthly Haul will come after the last Wednesday of January. I’m sure you don’t care, so let’s just go ahead and review some comics.

monthly haul #1

I tried this reviewing-comics-every-week gig, first with Weekly Haul, and then New Comics Yay!, but it just doesn’t stick with me. I know I’m passionate enough about reading comics, but blogging about it is an entirely different thing. With the real world usually foiling my plans of writing comic book reviews every week, I’ve decided to stop. But not completely. I’ll try doing this on a monthly basis. I still believe that by reviewing comics, I’ll somehow save the world. Hasn’t happened yet, but at least I’ve inspired people. I think. Anyhoo, let’s do this!

what if? planet hulk

I didn’t get to hop on the Planet Hulk train but that didn’t stop me from picking up this lovely piece of What If? awesomeness. What If? Planet Hulk contains three stories by Greg Pak featuring alternate outcomes of the Planet Hulk saga, and all of it is a whole bag of nice. I specifically love the first one where the Hulk died and Caiera lived to raise hell on Earth. It was meaner, bloodier, and sadder. Brilliant. Also, can I just say that Leonard Kirk is the shit?
