Hm. The first two Monthly Haul opening images contain Wolverine saying “Comics!” and I swear to God it wasn’t premeditated. Anyhoo, I kind of realized that since I’m doing this monthly comic book reviews thing, I might as well do it the last week of every month. If you noticed, I’m currently doing it the third week, which is sorta weird. So the third installment of Monthly Haul will come after the last Wednesday of January. I’m sure you don’t care, so let’s just go ahead and review some comics.
No, I’m not starting a new blog series about delayed shipments of new comics. I just want to celebrate the first time that I used a no-new-comics day to my advantage. See, I checked with my LCS about the shipment before I went to the mall. I was told the shipment is delayed, but if I make an advance payment for the new comics, I’d get free comics. Cool, right? Not really. First of all, when the clerk told me I’d get “free comics”, she actually meant “a free comic”. Yeah. Singular. What’s worse is that she was pressuring me to pick my free comic since there were a lot of customers and they were about to close shop. I ended up picking The Death of the New Gods #2.
I didn’t get this issue because the first one left me feeling empty inside. It wasn’t horrible, but I felt it wasn’t worth following for 7 more issues. But hey, it’s free. Might as well, right? So anyway, here’s the rest of the stuff that I paid for in advance:
I tried this reviewing-comics-every-week gig, first with Weekly Haul, and then New Comics Yay!, but it just doesn’t stick with me. I know I’m passionate enough about reading comics, but blogging about it is an entirely different thing. With the real world usually foiling my plans of writing comic book reviews every week, I’ve decided to stop. But not completely. I’ll try doing this on a monthly basis. I still believe that by reviewing comics, I’ll somehow save the world. Hasn’t happened yet, but at least I’ve inspired people. I think. Anyhoo, let’s do this!
It was my birthday week and I was awesomed at the sheer amount of face rockery that went on in comics. It was like the universe conspiring to give me the most awesometastic comic book birthday week ever! Here’s proof:
I’m not really in the mood for shouting “YAY!” right now because 1.) I’m living a very stressful and depressing life right now, and 2.) there were only two comics that grabbed my wallet’s attention. It was supposed to be three, but my LCS decided to only get two (TWO!!!) copies of The Last Fantastic Four Story. I have to wait two weeks before I get my copy. Bah. Anyway, this’ll be short so let’s get it over with.
