ITEM! Comic books on mobile phones! Publishers are currently testing the waters of digital distribution on mobile devices. It’s kind of weird at first, but once you let the idea settle in, you’ll… nah. There’s nothing like “new comic smell” and the sound of flipping the 4-color pages. Interesting initiative, though.

ITEM! “Iron Man” teaser trailer now online! And it was earlier than expected! It’s basically the same piece of video awesomeness that was shown during the San Diego Comic-Con, but I’m not complaining. I nominate it for a Nobel Prize for Awesome.

ITEM! The 20th Annual Harvey Awards ceremony has concluded! Winners include Ed Brubaker for Best Writer, “Daredevil” for Best Continuing or Limited Series, Frank Quitely for Best Artist, and Civil War #1 for Best Single Issue or Sto… wait, WHAT?!

Before I got into Marvel and DC stuff, my love for the sequential art started to bloom when I was in grade school reading Filipino komiks. I especially enjoyed the horror and fantasy genre. I eventually moved on to American comics, but I’m constantly waiting for the right time to get into reading local sequential art again. And I believe that the time is nigh.

Thanks to a couple of online initiatives, Komiks is starting a new life on the web.

webcomic republicThe Webcomic Republic is a group of Filipino web comic authors. Their initial roster is an awesome bunch: Jonas Diego, Gerry Alanguilan, Ariel Atienza, Rey Villegas, Laguna Teddy Pavon, and Laurento Jovito Fua offer stories of action, drama, humor, horror, and possibly any other genre that you can think of.
