With the focus of this done-in-one issue being on a dude called “Butterball”, you’d expect it to suck big time. But it doesn’t. That’s why I love this series. You’d expect one thing while turning the first few pages, and by the time you reach the last page, all your expectations are already out the door getting dirty under the rain.

Christos Gage joins the ranks of the Initiative creative team starting this month, and with this awesome debut, I’m confident that he’ll blow all our expectations out the planet! He managed to introduce a new batch of Initiative cadets, create tension and conflict among several characters, and provide character development on practically every page. And he did it all in just one issue. Righteous.

Kudos also to Steve Uy for the unconventional (at least for me) art. I wasn’t comfortable with it in the first few pages, but halfway through the issue, during the push-ups in the rain scene I think, I started to appreciate it. Actually, I’m kinda sad that he’s just filling in for Stefano Caselli. Weird.

Nice art, genuinely funny moments, non-stop character development for some characters I’ve never even heard of until now, a lovable star-for-an-issue, and a touching last page make this a must-read. BUY IT!
