The 2-issue limited series about the X-Men dealing with the ramifications of Messiah Complex is a pleasant surprise as far as I’m concerned, and it’s not just the X-Fan in me talking. I enjoyed it a lot, especially the second issue.

The stories, although seemingly disjointed, actually paints a cohesive bigger picture of depression, loss, and failure with a hint of hope. This is the X-Men at their best. Underdogs in a strange soap opera. We also get to see almost every part of the X-Universe including Shi’Ar space and Limbo. I love it.

As much as I love the short X-Tales, I think I enjoyed the art more. Both books are just so pretty, especially the Brandon Peterson covers.

I wish Marvel did a couple more issues. If they can maintain the quality, I’d definitely buy an ongoing series that features short tales of different X-Characters not appearing in the existing monthly X-Books. I won’t mind adding another X-Book in my pull list if that’s the case. X-Men for life, yo!
