Thor likes to eat golden apples while being surrounded by naked women. That’s my kind of god, yeah!
I’ve always liked mythology. When I was kid, I used to read Greek mythologies in the nerdy confines of our school library. I loved watching movies featuring Greek gods and goddesses. Eventually, my attention was dragged away from ancient myths towards the modern myths and legends: superheroes. Last week, both ancient and modern mythologies were united for a most awesome marriage of epic battles and awe-inspiring godly mischief in Thor: Ages of Thunder, written by Matt Fraction.
It’s refreshing to read a Thor who’s not the regular nice guy we’ve all known and loved, at least in the Marvel Universe. This Thor is cold, cruel, and cunning. When he’s not fooling around with his ultra hot concubines, he’s throwing Mjolnir through Frost Giants’ skulls, like so:

It’s an awesome read. It’s also a fantastic way to introduce yourself to Norse mythology. Fraction used ancient Norse myths to bring a fresh feel to Marvel’s Asgardians that doesn’t feel outdated. In fact, you don’t have to be familiar with Marvel’s version of the Thunder God to appreciate this lovely comic book. Awesomely written and awesomely rendered, it’s definitely worth the $3.99 cover price. I can’t wait for the next one-shot.
