The 2007 Face Rocking List

Last year, I unleashed the 2006 Awesome List. Since I already have Face Rockery this year, I think a name change will be appropriate. The 2007 Face Rocking List will showcase the things in comics and pop culture that totally rocked my face this year. In no particular order:
HEROES
I didn’t really find the show interesting at first, probably because my attention was still on Lost, 24, and Smallville. But I just couldn’t ignore all the buzz. I’ve seen this kind of story in comics before, but to see it on TV is a whole new experience. The second season sorta blows, though, even with the addition of the mighty fine Kristen Bell to the cast. I’m watching the first season on DVD right now and I’m hoping the next time this show goes on air, it’ll be just as good.
CIVIL WAR AFTERMATH
If there’s one thing I love about Civil War, it’s the aftermath. It’s just a joy to see new Marvel characters like The Order and the guys in Avengers: The Initiative. The over-all feel in the Marvel U right now is exciting and unique. I love it. Of course, Civil War didn’t really do a lot with most of the established Marvels, but it did put Iron Man on top of the food chain. Also, Cap’s dead. =(
MARVEL EVENTS
You’d think Marvel would’ve slowed down after Civil War to let the dust settle, but that’s just not the case. Annihilation: Conquest gave us one of my favorite mini-series of the year: Star-Lord. The widescreen movie in digital surround sound awesomefest World War Hulk just brought the noise to a whole new level. Messiah Complex may have a lot to do with 90’s X-Men crossovers nostalgia, but it doesn’t suck. So far. It’s been a great year to be a Marvel fan, and my wallet hates me for it.
300 & TRANSFORMERS
These movies lit up the world of cinema this year, and I know why; THEY. ARE. AWESOME. I’ve watched 300 so many times on DVD, it’s ridiculous. It’s just so iconic. An icon of what? An icon of AWESOME, that’s what. And Transformers? Never mind the nostalgia. It involves giant frickin’ robots punching and kicking each other! Also, Megan Fox is hot. I don’t have a DVD of Transformers yet, but once I get a copy, it would probably be a major competition for 300 as Baddie’s Most Watched DVD of All Time.
SINESTRO CORPS WAR
When 52 ended, a rift between DC and my reading habits started to form. Save from Justice Society of America and The Brave and the Bold, there really wasn’t anything that made DC a contender for my money… until I read the Sinestro Corps Special. That made me add Green Lantern to my pull list, and it was one of the best decisions I made in 2007. The Sinestro Corps War arc was simply a fun read. Come on, alien decapitation every few pages? FUN.
FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS
Before I discovered Bahlactus‘ wonderful world of violence, I only read a couple of comics blogs regularly. Chris Sims and Dave Campbell were my only guides to the dangerous underworld of four color blogging fun. Since joining the awesome conglomerate of face kickery called Friday Night Fights, I have discovered some of the most entertaining blogs on the Interwebs. It is glooorious.
SUPERGIRL IN SMALLVILLE
Call me shallow, but I love hot chicks. And I also love Smallville. So when it was announced that Laura Vandervoort will be joining the Smallville cast as Kara, my head exploded. I have been a fan of the show since episode one. I admit it’s past its prime already. I’d say it hit its peak in the second season, but that’s just me. Nevertheless, it doesn’t hurt to add some new faces to the show, and Kara is definitely a welcome addition.
FRACTION AND BRUBAKER
I’m not gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but I fell in love with two men this year. Ed “I Killed Cap” Brubaker and Matt “I Blew Up Stilt-Man’s Crotch” Fraction. Brubaker didn’t really blew me away with his first Uncanny X-Men arc, but he’s been melting my face every month in Captain America ever since he killed Cap. Fraction has been blowing my mind every month with The Order and Punisher War Journal. And both these guys are kicking major ass with The Immortal Iron Fist, my vote for Insanely Face Rocking Series of the Year. YAY!
So there you go. The things that rocked my face in 2007. I’m sure you guys can come up with your own list too, and if you do, please tell me so I can laugh at it. I’m kidding.
As I end this blog entry, which is my last post for 2007, I’d like to thank all the readers of Face Rockery for… umm… reading Face Rockery. Heh. Have a face rocking new year, y’all! Cheers!
