This footage is originally from the promotional widget of JJ Abrams‘ new film, Cloverfield, hence the short introduction.

Abrams, for those not in the know, is the dude behind the TV shows Lost and Alias, and the movies Armageddon and Mission: Impossible 3. That’s one reason to anticipate the movie. The second, and probably the more important, reason is that THIS IS A FRICKIN’ MONSTER MOVIE.

Judging from its first five minutes, which acts as a teaser trailer, it’s gonna be awesome. But that’s what I said when I saw the teaser trailer for the Wachowski Brothers’ Godzilla movie. Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait ’til next month to see if Cloverfield will be what Godzilla was supposed to be.

Cloverfield opens January 18, 2008.
