No New Comics BOO! #1
No, I’m not starting a new blog series about delayed shipments of new comics. I just want to celebrate the first time that I used a no-new-comics day to my advantage. See, I checked with my LCS about the shipment before I went to the mall. I was told the shipment is delayed, but if I make an advance payment for the new comics, I’d get free comics. Cool, right? Not really. First of all, when the clerk told me I’d get “free comics”, she actually meant “a free comic”. Yeah. Singular. What’s worse is that she was pressuring me to pick my free comic since there were a lot of customers and they were about to close shop. I ended up picking The Death of the New Gods #2.
I didn’t get this issue because the first one left me feeling empty inside. It wasn’t horrible, but I felt it wasn’t worth following for 7 more issues. But hey, it’s free. Might as well, right? So anyway, here’s the rest of the stuff that I paid for in advance:
- Justice Society of America #11 - The only new DC comic I’m getting this week.
- Annihilation: Conquest #2 - Star-Lord and his motley crew join the fun!
- Avengers: The Initiative Annual #1 - The origins of Gauntlet, Armory, MVP, and Hardball revealed? I’m in!
- The Order #5 - One of the best Marvel comics in the stands right now. Promise.
- Uncanny X-Men #493 - Messiah CompleX continues and in it until it concludes.
What If? X-Men - Rise and Fall of the Shi’Ar Empire #1- Removed it from my shopping list at the very last minute. I just felt the original story didn’t really float my boat.- Ultimates 3 #1 - I didn’t just paid for this issue, I paid for all 5 issues!
So this new clerk told me about their Ultimates 3 promo, right? Php750 for 5 issues, bagged and boarded. I made the computation (sold separately, bagged and boarded, the series is worth Php925), I made the conclusion that it’s a sweet deal, so I went for it. All was going well when the new girl unwittingly insulted my geekhood. I asked her “Tatlong covers sa number one? [Three covers for #1?]” and she replied “Ultimates 3 po kase may Ultimates 1 at Ultimates 2 na. [It's called Ultimates 3 because there was an Ultimates 1 and an Ultimates 2 already.]” WTF?!
I applaud her for knowing that but I frown at the mere thought of her face for assuming that I don’t know my comics. How dare she?! I will never forget this, new girl! NEVER!

750 is the normal rate for 5 issues bagged and boarded in Druid’s Keep, Magallanes. 854-5332.
