zuda comics

DC Comics, publisher of Superman, Batman, and Jimmy Olsen comics, has announced that it will be launching a new web comics imprint: Zuda Comics. The site will be launched this October, but for now, let’s talk about their press release.

The site is scheduled to launch this October and will feature multiple ongoing web comics. Following the site’s launch, the majority of the web comics will be selected by Zudacomics.com’s visitors, who will vote on new web comics presented to them in periodic competitions. Winners of the competitions will receive commissions to create a year’s worth of their web comics for the site, and will have their work published in print formats as well.

That would be awesome. This reminds me of ComicSpace’s Comic Galleries where site members get to show off their comic book works. The difference is ComicSpace Comic Galleries show off works meant for print. Zuda Comics will be opening the doors for web comic creators who want to get their comics published in print formats eventually.

Zudacomics.com’s official tagline is “click here to continue.”

The site has a great and exciting concept, but their tagline sucks. Of course, I’m not an expert on awesome tagline production, so let’s just move on.

The site will embrace leading Web 2.0 technologies such as blogging, commenting, rating and tagging to encourage maximum community participation and feedback on artists’ submissions.

Knowing how vocal the comic book-reading Internet nerds and comic blogosphere geeks are, I’d say things can get really loud in Zudacomics.com.

For someone who loves comics, I’d say this is a very exciting initiative. I think we’re looking at the dawn of a web comics boom. I love it.

You can read the full press release and other stuff about this initiative on their site.
